Do you have 3 hours per week for a new companionship? Do you like meeting new people? Do you want to do something rewarding with your time ?

NWK Carers Support Service is looking for social people with a few hours to spare each week, who would like to try something new!

The charity was founded in 1989 and supports unpaid Carers who are caring for a friend or relative with an illness or disability.

Its Volunteer Short Break service enables Carers to take a short break from their caring responsibilities, by providing a Respite Volunteer to support the cared-for person in the comfort of their own home in a way that respects their dignity. These Volunteer Respite Sitters provide social interaction, companionship and befriending to both the cared-for and the Carer.
Volunteers do NOT carry out any personal care tasks, or supervise medication. Volunteers are only able to assist with basic manual handling tasks if they have attended the appropriate training.

Volunteers will complete a recruitment process which includes an informal interview, character references and an enhanced police check, as well as induction training and the chance to attend ongoing training sessions, with regular support and supervision from the Senior Care Support Worker.

Times are arranged between the Volunteer and the family so can be flexible. Travel expenses reimbursed.

The Respite Volunteers get involved for a variety of reasons: some would like experience of working within the community; some are looking for new activities now they are retired; some are ex-Carers who would like to use their experience to benefit others. Whatever reason you may have, North West Kent Carers would love to hear from you.
